Press Release: Born in Sheki, Jevdet Hajiyev (1917–2002) bestrode Azerbaijani classical music like a colossus, with a long and active career that spanned the entire Soviet period, his final work being dedicated to the victims of Black January in 1990, when civilians were massacred in Baku after an uprising against Soviet rule. On 24 November, the deconsecrated 18th century ecclesiastical baroque surroundings of St. John’s, Smith Square, resounded to his emotive and evocative music.

Press Release: Some unique – and hitherto unseen – photographs of 19th century Baku have been exhibited at the Musée-Hôtel Le Vergeur in Reims, France, as an initiative of the French office of The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS) Foundation. The private view and inauguration cocktail, attended by around 60 people, took place on 24 November, in the presence of H.E Rahman Mustafayev, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to France; H.E. Ecaterine Siradze-Delaunay, Ambassador of Georgia to France; and Pascal Labelle, Deputy Mayor of Reims in charge of Culture.

Press Release: On 31 October, the definitive English-language biography of Azerbaijani National Leader Heydar Aliyev received its international launch at the UK Parliament, during a standing-room only event hosted by Bob Blackman MP, who is also Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Azerbaijan. The event was organised by The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS). TEAS Press has published the new biography, and attendees included Lord Kilclooney, Lord Addington, Mark Pawsey MP and Martin Vickers MP.

Press Release: On 17 October – less than one month before the Remembrance Day commemorations across the UK – a landmark documentary about a lesser-known battle of the war was shown to a packed audience of over 100 Azerbaijanis, military historians and multinational friends of Azerbaijan in Committee Room 12 of the House of Lords in the UK Parliament. The screening was organised by Mark Menzies MP, Vice-Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Azerbaijan, for which The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS) provides the secretariat.

Press Release: TheFestival Musique de Chambre à Giverny, which takes place each year in the Normandy region of France, paid tribute to Azerbaijani classical music as a part of the main theme of its 13th edition, which was La Route de la Soie (The Silk Road). The festival, which took place from 17­−27 August, comprised 11 concerts and a conference. The French office of The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS) supported the event.
